The Dailey Method is set to open in White Rock

A new studio offering a “non-impact ballet barre workout” is coming to the Semiahmoo Peninsula with their Grand Opening this weekend – May 12th/13th.

The Dailey Method White Rock, owned and operated by local resident Judie Wilson in partnership with The Dailey Method of San Francisco, will be located at 1122 Vidal Street in White Rock, and will feature two exercise studios, shower facilities, child-minding as well as a retail clothing section.

The White Rock location will be the second Dailey Method studio in the Lower Mainland; the first opened in Vancouver two years ago.

Wilson describes the Dailey Method as a workout that “combines barre work (the horizontal, waist-level bar used by ballet dancers) with core conditioning, stretching and orthopedic exercises to “strengthen, tone and lengthen the entire body.”

“I want my studio to help clients of all fitness levels and ambitions to reach their desired level of health and well-being. The Dailey Method can help anyone, from the sedentary person or weekend jogger to the high-performance team sports player,” she says.

Learn about South Surrey’s fascinating history on a free tour this Sunday!

Jane's Walk takes place this Sunday, May 6th

Jane's Walk takes place this Sunday, May 6th

You are invited to join in celebrating South Surrey’s second annual Jane’s walk with a 2-hour walking tour through one of our neighbourhoods.

The walk will start and end at the Semiahmoo Library. You will be lead through some residential streets in the vicinity of Semiahmoo Mall, which are in different stages of transformation from single family areas into multi-family environments.

The walk leaders are Hernan H. Bello and Misty R. Jorgensen who work for the City of Surrey Planning Department.

They will share with you a bit of history of the city planning process and some of the buildings and parks along the walk. Walking some sections of the ‘Semiahmoo Heritage Trail’ gives them the opportunity to show you some examples of techniques planners use to enhance the aesthetic and safety elements of the pedestrian experience. They will also walk a section of 152 Street to illustrate another challenge that planners face: balancing the conflicting uses of cars and pedestrians in the same space, and dealing with the transition from car oriented uses to more pedestrian friendly environment.

As Professional Planners working for The City of Surrey they will appreciate hearing comments, ideas and suggestions to make Semiahmoo Town Center better in the future.

Hernan is an Urban Designer, Senior Planner with background in architecture and urban planning.

Misty is an Associate Planner with background in urban studies, political science, public administration, criminology and anthropology.
